Banksy - Armoured Dove of Peace
Banksy's "Armoured Dove of Peace" made in 2007, is a political message criticising the Palestinian-Iranian conflict. A dove is shown with its wings spread apart, holding an olive branch in its mouth and wearing a flak jacket.
Stylistic Devices: Symbolism, Juxtaposition, Stencil
Symbolism - The dove and the olive branch in its mouth are symbols of peace. The flak jacket and the target on its chest symbolise violence.
Juxtaposition - Peace is juxtaposed with violence. The war zone faces armed violence in spite of pleas for peace.
Stencil - It is a powerful tool as it allows for free interpretation. The artist simply outlines the art. It is up to the viewers to interpret it the way they want.
Global Issue: Peace as a privilege only for the rich.
